Owl Occasions Birthday Wish

owl occasions birthday wish angle

This cute little owl from the Stampin’ Up! Owl Occasions in the Holiday Catalog is to die for!   He is so adorable you can hardly go wrong.  I stamped him in Tangerine Tango on this Early Espresso branch and added Summer Starfruit leaves.  I also added a touch of Perfect Plum to his front feathers with marker and adhesive-backed Googlie eyes, also from the Holiday Catalog.

The balloons were stamped in Tangerine Tango, Perfect Plum and Summer Starfruit and punched out with the 3/4″ circle punch. Then I knotted one end of some Pool Party bakers twine to attach below the balloons, then I tied all the strings together into his ‘hand’.  I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue to attach the knots and Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the balloons.

The scallops below the picture were created with the same color as the balloons.  I used the Scallop Punch and punched a longer section than I needed so I could trim it out where I wanted the scallops to land.  Doing this allowed me to stagger the scallops.

Enjoy! Julie

Watercolor Block Stamping

summer silhouette cas birthday

A single layer birthday card with no embellishments, unless you count glitter.  🙂  I’ve been wanting to try the watercolor block technique.  This entails coloring on an acrylic block and stamping with the block.  It’s a little trickier than I originally thought and it took me a few tries to get an effect I liked.

I used the Summer Starfruit, Tangerine Tango and Tempting Turquoise markers to scribble freely on an acrylic block.  Then I lightly spritzed the block with water before stamping on the Whisper White card stock.  It’s very important to spritz it lightly.  I sprayed it from about a foot away and only once.  Anymore water than that makes it too wet and the colors run and get messy.

I stamped the Summer Silhouette images over the color blocks with Black StazOn ink.  When I stamped the lower images, I masked the bottom so the stems would not extend below the color blocks.

Using a two-way glue pen I tapped a little glue on the flower blooms to add Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.  Can you see the glitter in the picture below?  Glitter is so hard to photograph.  🙁

A Happy Birthday to My Mother!

Papillon Potpourri soft birthday card angle

One of my all-time favorite color schemes is Pink Pirouette with crisp white and dramatic black.  It’s such an elegant look and feel.  So I used the combo for my mother’s birthday card.  (I think I used the same colors in her Mother’s Day card too.  Oops!)  I had to make sure she received her card in the mail first before I posted it here – so now that I’m sure she has it, I can share it with all of you!  I love making something special for her, because I love her, she deserves it, and because she loves my cards and appreciates them!

First, I stamped one of the smaller doilies from Delicate Doilies stamp set down the left side.  Then, using the Stamp-a-ma-jig for perfect placement, I stamped the sentiment from Blooming with Kindness in Black StazOn ink.  While I had my doily inked up with Pink Pirouette I stamped it on a scrap then stamped the butterfly from the Papillon Potpourri stamp set over that before punching it out with the Elegant Butterfly Punch.

I used the same punch to layer a black butterfly silhouette and punched out the small 4-petal flower in pink from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack.  An itty bitty black circle  topped with a bitty pearl was added to the tiny flower.  My bone folder aided me to curve the wings of the butterfly and the petals of the tiny flower.

The black delicate scallop edge was punched with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch and tucked under the stamped panel before the panel was adhered to the Pink Pirouette card base.

Cotton Ribbon Flower Birthday Card

sweet essentials ribbon flower birthday card angle

The Stampin’ Up! exclusive magazine for demonstrators is a wonderful source of inspiration.  This past month it featured an article on stamping on ribbon using the new 7/8” Cotton Ribbon and the Border Banter stamp set, both on page 20 of the new Holiday Catalog.  In the catalog you’ll see a candy box tied with the festive green stamped ribbon.  Very playful and lovely!

My card uses the same layout and basic features of the stamped card found in the magazine.  To create the ribbon flower, the ribbon is first stamped with Primrose Petals ink and ruffled in the middle and hot glued to a cardstock circle.  Once the base of the flower was complete, I threaded a white twine bow into the clear Vintage Button and adhered that to the flower with glue dots. sweet essentials ribbon flower birthday card close up

The ‘make a wish’ greeting was also stamped on ribbon; this time using Black StazOn ink.  A strip of Crochet Trim was affixed to the back of the ribbon and then the flag end was trimmed out with Craft Scissors.  The Craft Scissors are wonderful and cut through ribbon and paper like butter! sweet essentials ribbon flower birthday card sentiment

A quick word about Craft Scissors and other tools – I used to think I was no good at baking cookies until I invested in long-lasting quality baking tools, like a baking stone and a cooling rack.  When I started using the quality tools my experience with baking was transformed.  Every batch was successful!  Craft Scissors and other high quality Stampin’ Up! tools are invaluable in transforming your crafting experience into fabulous success!

The leaves are Little Leave Sizzlits cut outs.  Using the tip of the Bone Folder, I creased the center of the leaves for a more natural look.  sweet essentials ribbon flower birthday card leaves

And finally, probably my favorite part of this card, the background!  This background was featured in video #1 in the recent article 5 new Stampin’ Up! How-To Videos !    Starting with the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder, I used a brayer to roll ink on one side of the open folder.  Then I sandwiched the cardstock in the folder and gently rubbed the inked folder over the Primrose Petals paper.  That’s it.  Instead of embossing the card front I just used the folder to ‘stamp’ the paper creating this lovely background!  Watch the video if you’re still trying to figure out what I did!

Try the new ‘stamping with an embossing folder’ technique. Order your cotton ribbon today and start stamping!

Stampin’ Up! Happy Birthday Wonderful You Card

pretty postage wonderful you birthday card

A little Catalog magic inspired this Pretty Postage birthday card!  The card on the bottom of page 178 was the specific inspiration.  I changed the stamps and the colors slightly and I was excited to use the little silver mini brads for the first time.  Love those little things – so cute!

The circles on the blue tag are stamped Marina Mist ink on Marina Mist card stock, color on color, with a circle stamp from the Circle Circus stamp set.

The birthday cake was colored with Stampin’ Write Markers and then stamped and punched out with the Postage Punch.  When I color a stamp with markers I like to start with the lightest color first to keep the markers clean.  With this card it was easiest to color the candles flames first as they are so tiny and it would have been really hard to color them just right after everything else was colored in.

The flag ends of the large Early Espress banner and the Certainly Celery banner were cut with the corner of a Square Punch.
