Chalk Talk Thank You

A Chalk Talk Thank You and Missed Opportunities

Chalk Talk Thank You

What happens when you create, and create, and you take pictures and you don’t share them?

This…

… a Chalk Talk thank you card that includes great stuff that you can’t get anymore.

Big bummer!

All is not lost…lots of great stuff on this card that is still available…but it could be gone too eventually.

Moral of the story?

…I’ll leave that up to you.

I love the Apothecary framelits I used to trim the layers of the tag.  And…BONUS…they’re still available!

Using only one color with a couple of neutrals is an easy way to get a unified look.  Score!

Coordinating pattern paper, cardstock and embossing powder in Stampin’ Up! Melon Mambo – it’s like Color Coordination for Dummies.

Black always adds so much style and sophistication to a card even if it is a chalkboard.  I’m a fan of black.  I disagree that Orange is the New Black.  Sorry, Netflix.

I still love the chalkboard look.   How about you?  You can easily achieve this chalkboard technique by heat embossing on black cardstock.   Then rub white craft ink randomly across the black cardstock with a sponge for that chalky, just erased look.

Apparently, Stampin’ Up! does not feel the need to consult me before making product retirement decisions.

What’s up with that?

I can guarantee you that if they had asked me, I would have said you can’t retire these sweet open hearts from Hearts A Flutter or the Melon Mambo embossing powder until after I’ve walked on the moon.

Which is NEVER!

But the good news, I guess, is that amazing stamp sets and accessories retire so we can have more amazing stamp sets and accessories.

And we don’t all have to have back surgery from carrying around a catalog that weighs 500 pounds.

And more good news – the bakers twine is now available in seven new colors and the new thick baker’s twine is available in five colors.  Seven plus five equals twelve new options.  Check it out here.

Zoo Babies Congratulations

Zoo-Babies-congratulations stampin up stampingjulie.com

This is embarrassing! I wrote this post last November and never posted it.  So it’s a little late.

OK…

     …a lot late.

I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Cute Cohen featured below is now crawling everywhere.  So cute!  And we’ve had another grandbaby since I wrote this among many other things.

This is part of my No-More-Perfectionist Manifesto, so I will share it with you even if it’s not perfect!!

Right?       Right!

So on to the ancient post…

Isn’t this the sweetest Zoo Babies card?  I made this at a Stampin’ Up! event this past summer and I love it.  I love the soft colors, the patterns, the scallops, the ruffle ribbon and the adorable Stampin’ Up! Zoo Babies stamp set animals.  (More details on this card below.)

Part of my absence from this space has been the welcoming a new grandbaby!  Little baby Cohen was born last month and his sister and brother LOVE him.  Recently while at a trick or treat party a friend was holding the sweet newborn and his two year old brother reminded her repeatedly that the baby was his and she could NOT take him home!  So cute and sweet!  And now I’m going to do the proud grandma thing and whip out my virtual photobook!  Ha!  (And thank you to all my wonderful friends out there who continue to order from StampingJulie.com!)

I have the cutest grandchildren.  <sigh>

OK, back to the card!  Loved the Zoo Babies stamp set as soon as I saw it in this year’s catalog.  Did you notice it too or is it just because we were expected TWO new grandbabies this year.  And these new colors are beautiful with this set.  Isn’t Smoky Slate just perfect for this playful elephant?  And combined with the Coastal Cabana toucan – excellent!

The scalloped panel was created with the scallop circle die and trimmed to 4″ wide.  What a clever way to use this die.  And, of course, everything with Stampin’ Up! coordinates beautifully from candy dots to ruffle ribbon to pattern paper – fabulous!!  Spend less time looking for the perfect match and more time creating!

The Modern Label punched designer series paper is a wonderful layer for the word window punched greeting.  I love the look of the new In Color Designer Series Paper Stacks.  The patterns shown above are just opposites sides of the same paper.  Again, superty-duperty easy designing!

Really Good Greetings Thank You Flowers

really good greetings flower thank you card stampingjulie.com I’ve had the idea for this thank you card swimming around my head since the introduction of the new Stampin’ Up! In Colors – Strawberry Slush, Baked Brown Sugar, Coastal Cabana, Crisp Cantaloupe, and Pistachio Pudding.  If you look closely you’ll see that the front panel is scored into sections, then in each section is a Floral Fusion Sizzlets flower with the ‘gee, thanks’ (from the new Stampin’ Up! Really Good Greetings stamp set) stamped in the top middle section in Strawberry Slush.

I even made a matching envelope.  The envelope was stamped with the flowers from Betsy’s Blossoms in Strawberry Slush.  I’m making a coordinating envelope with almost every card these days.  It doesn’t take much to do and I think it makes the card extra special.  But if you are like me you are wondering about the dimensions on this card.

I had to do some real math to get this panel to work out just right.  Here’s my math.  The card base measures 3-3/4″ x 5-1/2″.  The front panel is 3-1/2″ x 5-1/4″.  The front panel is scored across at 1-3/4″ and 3-1/2″ and then turned and scored crosswise at 1-3/4″.  When you are done, each scored section is 1-3/4″ square.  Of course, the Simply Scored Scoring Tool made this a super simple task!

The new Strawberry Slush In Color is definitely one of my favorites, so I used that to stamp the greeting.  If you stamp your greeting on an angle, you didn’t have to worry about lining it up just right to make it straight.  Plus, I think it adds more whimsy and interest to the card.  What do you think?

Each flower was centered with a circle of contrasting cardstock and topped with a rhinestone.  I just love the self-adhesive rhinestone Basic Jewels.  And I love the fact that they also come with a few rhinestones attached in a line, which was perfect to underline ‘gee, thanks’.

Stampin’ Up! Aviary Stamp Set Retiring :(

Stampin' Up! Aviary CAS Greeting Card angle A Clean and Simple Greeting Card

I absolutely love the Aviary Stamp Set! Here are a couple of samples from this past year. One is super simple and the other is more involved, but both include bright little birds.

And here’s the other which is a little more involved with more bright color birds inspired by the Summer Smooches designer series paper and includes rhinestone accents.

Glittery Watercolor Friend Card

just believe watercolor glitter card stampingjulie.com

I really like watercolor cards  with unexpected color splashes so I thought I would experiment with the technique and I ended up with the inky fingers to prove it!  I used Shimmery White cardstock and the Just Believe stamp set for this experiment.

just believe watercolor glitter card stampingjulie.com

I stamped the label with Midnight Muse and embossed it with clear embossing powder.  Then I stamped ‘friends’ with Primrose Petals.  After trimming out the label I layered it on a Silver Glimmer paper label.  I used Primrose Petals and Silver Glimmer cardstock to create and layer the butterflies from the Beautiful Wings Embosslits die.

just believe watercolor glitter card stampingjulie.com I squirted the background cardstock with water before splattering Primrose Petals, Midnight Muse and Always Artichoke reinkers which allowed the ink to spread.  I put a few dabs of Silver Sparkle Dazzling Details glitter adhesive and spread it with my finger on the background.  I also added a couple of dots of the glitter to the butterflies and the flowers on the label.  Finally, I added a few rhinestones.
