Family Sunday: A Stampin’ Up! Blue Ribbon Congratulations

stampin up blue ribbon congratulations card Recently we’ve had some great things to celebrate in our family: son James earned the Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts, son Dallin called home to report his great grades in college so far this semester, son-in-law Joel recieved an award at work and niece’s husband Weston took first place in an interviewing contest at the university.  So I got busy making some masculine congratulation cards, which is quick and easy to do using the Stampin’ Up! Blue Ribbon stamp set!

Feeling Sentimental Ferris Wheel Stamp

The stamp images in the Stampin’ Up! Sale-a-bration Feeling Sentimental set are to die for!  I love the intricate, antique line drawings of a ferris wheel, phone booth and an old-time bicycle.  On this card, I decided to go light on dark with a couple of neutrals and Pool Party as my main color.  The latest Spring catalog and the Sale-a-bration products feature a lot of accessories for Pool Party, which I love.

I started with a Natural White cardstock.  Natural White is a little heavier than Whisper White and has a very slight speckled or grainy look to it.  It seemed perfect for a crisp, vintage look.   I stamped the ferris wheel in Versamark on Early Espresso cardstock, then embossed it with Pool Party embossing powder.  ‘Celebrate’ is embossed with Pool Party also.

And the Pool Party ribbon from the SAB Sycamore Street Ribbon & Button Pack is perfect.  This ribbon is wonderful.  It ties so easily and is not bulky on your projects.  You can get this ribbon with two other shades plus three colors of buttons in the pack.

Bloomin’ Marvelous with Chalkboard Stamping

bloomin' marvelous hummingbird flower chalkboard stamping card

The chalkboard technique is so easy and fun and gives great results especially with the   Sale-a-bration Bloomin’ Marvelous stamp set !  If you want to learn more about chalkboard stamping, check out this Jar of Hearts valentine post and video.  If you’ve liked my Stamping Julie facebook page, you saw this card a few days ago.

I started with a Crumb Cake cardstock card base.  When I want to add ribbon around a portrait oriented card I cut my cardstock at 4-1/2″ x 11″.  The SAB Sycamore Street Ribbon & Button Pack has three great ribbon colors – Tangerine Tango, Island Indigo & Pool Party – and the set comes with matching buttons in Tangerine Tango and Pool Party.  I decided to use the Tangerine Tango ribbon and buttons for a bold splash of color on an otherwise neutral card.

To add an additional ‘splash’ of color, I dropped Tangerine Tango color on the background as well.  This is easy to do with reinkers. Just put a couple of drops of ink on the lid of your open stamp pad and add a drop or two of water to dilute it a bit.  Then use a paint brush to pick up the ink and splash it over your card base.

You may want to experiment first on scratch paper first if you’ve never done this before so you get just the look you want.

I scored a border down the left side with the Simply Scored Scoring Tool and the Borders Scoring Plate and swiped just a bit of white craft ink over the embossing so that it would stand out a little more.

Collage Curios ‘Bee Mine’ Valentine Card

Collage Curios bee mine card

The big framelit die-cut heart provides impact on this Bee Mine Valentine, made with the Collage Curios and Notable Alphabet stamp sets.  And even though m-i-n-e is spelled out with individual letters, it’s super quick and easy to make this customized card.

Collage Curios bee mine card

After I layered the Whisper White cardstock on the Primrose Petals cardstock, I used my bone folder to gently rough up the edges.

I added a rhinestone to the bee and included a cascading row of rhinestones on the heart for a little sparkle.

So here’s the part that makes this card super easy to make and duplicate.  Add your stamps to your long ‘H’ acrylic block and stamp as many as you would like! This is a great strategy for stamping any word multiple times and it’s one of the great advantages to clear-mount cling stamps.

When you add your stamps to the block you have to think backwards to line them up correctly.  And be sure to stamp a sample on scrap paper to make sure you have it the way you want it.
