Digital Tuesday – Family History Scrapbook

digital family history album pedigree charts
I’m a big family history buff! I love it and have been researching my family for more than 15 years now and teaching and lecturing on family history for more than a dozen years. So I was super excited when Stampin’ Up! introduced the 12×12 family history digital photobook template for MDS in January.

The template for this photo book has a picture square behind the ‘family history’ banner.  I changed it to a block and added the family name.  I really enjoy being able to start with a template and adjust it to my needs.

The picture of the couple above is of my grandparents, HD and Josie DeLoach. The best I can tell this picture was taken around the time they got married which was 1941.  This is just the beginnings of my album and as you can tell I haven’t filled in all the data yet on the page below, but it gives you an idea of how easy it is to do.

For the other history buffs out there, I have to tell you of my latest discovery!  (For the rest of you, skip down below for the latest digital downloads!)

Last month the Louisville Genealogical Society meeting included a presentation from a couple who had a journal of an ancestor’s civil war experience.  It was a very small, fragile book with some wonderful excerpts about the history of the time.

Years ago I learned that the Brooks County Genealogical Society in Quitman, Georgia, had published “The Civil War Letters of Bryant Folsom.” Bryant Folsom was my 3rd great grandfather, an ancestor of my grandmother above, who died in the war.  I was anxious to get a copy of the publication.  Unfortunately, it was printed in 1997 and by the time I found out about it there were no copies available.

Occasionally I would search the web for a copy, but I never had any luck.  After going to the civil war lecture last month, I decided to try my search again and I found one for sale on Amazon!  I immediately purchased it and it was delivered just days later in perfect condition!  Success!  I am so happy to have this book for my family.

I’ve been traveling for nearly two weeks!  I was in Michigan with my mom, sister and nephew visiting my brother, James Wells, who is a physics professor at the University of Michigan, but has been a research scientist at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland for almost six years.

We had a funny moment when my sister asked James about the traffic on his website, scholardox.com.  He mentioned a couple of articles that get a lot of hits, namely High-voltage DC transmission lines and Science Background to North Korea’s Nuclear Bomb Program.   I started laughing.  “You know what gets the most hits on my website?” I asked, “How to Make Flowers from a Dryer Sheet!”  Is that not just the funniest comparison!?! It cracked me up!!  🙂

Kristin's new house in Austin

Then my husband Ron, and my son James and his friend all drove to Texas for spring break.  We first went to my daughter Kristin’s to help them move into their brand new house in Georgetown, Texas, a suburb of Austin!  It was so fun to see them and especially to squeeze on our cute grandbaby, Siena!!  She calls us Nini and Papa, and it is so sweet!

Family Sunday: Halloween Share

Today I wanted to share a few pictures of my grandkids from Halloween.  I loved getting these pictures.  It’s hard to be so far away and not be there for these fun times, but I’m very grateful to get the pictures and all the fun stories that go along with them.

Here’s Stephanie with her kiddos all dressed up and ready to go!

And here’s a picture of 3 yo Savannah on an dragon ice sculpture from a couple days before.  Isn’t that amazing?

Can you see Savannah in this picture?  She was waiting in the cackling contest line.  She had been looking forward to it for days and practiced on the way there.  So funny!  Mom reports she did great and won a vampire blow toy.  🙂

Here’s Kristin’s family.  Can you tell what their costume theme was this year?

Kristin was Katniss, Joel was Peeta and Siena was Effie Trinket from the Hunger Games.  Here’s the mockingjay pin Kristin made to go on her jacket.

Here’s a couple more pictures of their Hunger Games themed costumes.

Kristin says that Siena was pretty mad about the lipstick.  🙂

And look at this darling picture of little Siena trick-or-treating.

Kristin writes:  “Halloween = Pure joy for a first time parent.”

Siena trick-or-treating One daughter lives in Idaho and the other lives in Texas.  I bet you can tell which is which!?  The children are sooo sweet!  And their moms are too I might add!

Enjoy, Julie
